Wrightbus Launches Rightech EV Brand with New Trucks and Buses, Eyes Global Decarbonisation
Ballymena, UK – Zero-emission transport pioneer Wrightbus has unveiled four new electric vehicle (EV) products under its new Rightech brand, signaling ambitious plans to become a global transport leader by providing affordable options for operators to instantly decarbonise their fleets.
The announcement introduces:
- Two trucks: a 7.5-tonne model available in both left-hand and right-hand drive.
- Two buses: a 6-metre and a 9-metre model.
These new Rightech vehicles aim for sales across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, with initial orders already secured in these target territories, offering towns and cities more accessible paths to reducing emissions and improving air quality.
Comprehensive Support and Infrastructure
All new Rightech products will be backed by a full Wrightbus warranty, service, and maintenance package, supported by the UK’s largest fleet of mobile technicians. To bolster this, Rightech has partnered with Sapphire for UK servicing, adding 14 regional workshops to Wrightbus’s existing three. For Europe, four Letters of Intent (LOIs) have been signed with service providers in Germany, France, and the Benelux region, complementing the Wrightbus regional service headquarters in Brühl, Germany.
Furthermore, Ryze Power, part of Wrightbus owner Jo Bamford CBE’s net-zero portfolio, will provide class-leading charging infrastructure. W-Tech, a technology and research centre established with Queen’s University Belfast, will assist operators in optimizing routes for maximum fleet efficiency.
Global Ambitions Built on Proven Expertise
This launch comes after a period of record growth for Wrightbus, now Europe’s fastest-growing bus manufacturer with 2,200 employees and facilities in Northern Ireland, Malaysia, and service centres across the UK and Germany.
While a strategic framework agreement with two Chinese manufacturers forms the basis for the new products, Wrightbus engineers have dedicated over 30,000 hours to ensure the fleet meets the rigorous Wrightbus standard through independent testing, homologation, design, and validation.
Jo Bamford CBE, who acquired Wrightbus in 2019, emphasized Rightech’s role in accelerating decarbonization: “Given the very tangible effects of climate change… there’s simply no time to waste. Rightech has the answer – offering an incredible product with the backing of Britain’s best bus manufacturer.”
Driving the Energy Transition
Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales, a veteran of the automotive sector, stated: “Wrightbus has been flying the flag for zero emissions long before anyone else. Our hydrogen double-decker was the world’s first, and we have 1,700 electric buses on the road… we want to be a global mobility business, and to do this, we need to broaden our product portfolio. The quickest way to decarbonise truck and bus fleets is to electrify immediately.”
He added that this expansion, supported by their net-zero company portfolio, will create more jobs and opportunities in Northern Ireland, the UK, and Europe.
A spokesperson for Sapphire commented on the partnership: “Our aim is to help the transport industry drive carbon reduction… supporting those fleets making the imperative transition to alternative fuel vehicle operating profiles.”
